I’m sure we all had our suspicions that Daphne would go back to Carlton’s basketball team, right?
Yep, during Switched at Birth’s latest episode, The Art of Painting, Daphne made the switch and returned to her original team. I wouldn’t say Daphne was a traitor by any means. Instead, I think she was simply exploring other opportunities.
For me, it’s much like test-driving a car – you want to know what the commitment involves. Although Daphne’s test drive with the Buckner basketball team went a bit further than most test drives, she did eventually return to where she was most comfortable – the Carlton basketball team.
I think at this point in any teenager’s life, it’s about fitting in –it’s about being socially accepted and knowing who you are. If you’re unsure, life may become more difficult. This is why I feel bad for Emmett. Instead of facing the issues head-on, Emmett resorts to drinking.
Nonetheless, I’m happy Bay talked with Melody, and Melody, in turn, confronted Emmett’s father about his nonchalant behavior and how this is negatively impacting Emmett.
So, at the moment, I must say I’m on team Melody and Bay!
How about the rest of you?

What I liked about this episode is that it kinda scaled back on the drama and issues and focused on elements that HS teenagers typically face – kinda gave the show a sense of normalcy, IMHO. Also, I didn’t approve of the flip-flopping by Daphne. You don’t quit on your teammates during the season.
Jamie,
I have to say I agree with you re: not quitting on your teammates. In the ‘real world,’ I highly doubt Daphne would be able to make a switch, let alone two, in the middle of the season. It’s all about creating drama for what lies ahead.
Last, but not least, it’s interesting your perspective on the show scaling back on the drama. I think the writers interjected more drama by introducing the conflict between Emmett’s parents, as well as Kathryn giving the nurse a white envelope in a public place. I have a feeling the latter could come back to haunt Kathryn in the long run, perhaps in regards to the hospital hiring a private investigator to track John and Kathryn’s every move. I realize this is all for show, and that’s why I’m thinking to the extremes.

I was seriously wondering how Emmett could possibly stay in a house where rules are THAT lax. I mean what respectable adult would give alcohol to a minor?! I’m glad Bay talked to melody about it and that Melody confronted the dad. When we first saw Olivia, I thought she was quirky and cool, but now she’s just irresponsible and annoying….
Kat,
I have to say I agree with you in your assessment of Olivia being ‘irresponsible and annoying.’ I’m not certain Emmett’s father knows exactly what Olivia is enabling his son to do, but nonetheless, he should be aware of the circumstances his son is in. Hopefully things will change in the very near future; if it doesn’t, I’m concerned Emmett will face a long road ahead of him.
