Why 866 Numbers May Not Work

Some of you have been experiencing problems when dialing 866 and other toll free numbers from your videophones. Hopefully the video will help explain why those problems have been occurring.

The National Association of the Deaf has also issued an explanation here.

Consumer organizations filed a request for emergency stay. You can see it here.

You can see original filings by Consumer Organizations here, by Purple here, and by CSDVRS here.

  1. Thanks, Kelby, for fixing the link.

While I understand Sorenson’s ultimate financial motivation I am 100% behind Purple and others’ object to the FCC decision to remove 800/866 numbers from the central database which defeats the equalvalent functional philosophy. I commend everybody’s efforts to preserve our telecommunication needs and rights.

  2. Your explaination is very clear and I understand why this 800/866′s not working, and I hope that it can be restored soon.
Today, many people used to have 800/866 their personal address, and now we need to start w. using local numbers. I hope that FCC works out it back.
    Thanks!
