  1. Sam the Bright Says:

Yes, it would be much help and have people aware my id caller. I don’t mind to leave my id being open gate to anyone. Private isn’t an optional.

  2. Dianrez Says:

At first I thought you were talking about Sorenson not providing caller ID, when they do on their devices, VP100 and VP200. Actually, after reading the filings, I realized you meant that the ID information is not showing up on non-Sorenson devices, only on Sorenson devices.

Yes, that’s wrong, and all devices should be fully interoperable with each other. Including caller ID and other features available to hearing telephone users.

  3. Brian M Says:

    Kelby,
    Yes! second to your prospal(SP)..

  4. Aaron Valentine Says:

I think good idea to make Caller ID required, but if that happen, maybe good idea to add new feature that give consumer an option to turn on or turn off on caller id in case consumer want to hide his caller id, i think it is important to have something that consumers want included :-)

  5. Cesar Rocha Says:

I need a caller id, so I can know who calling. We should be equal what hearing have. Another company don’t own us. They should have respect for it.

  6. Helene Bonura Says:

Yes, we do feel that we should have Caller ID which help us to identify who is calling… sometimes, Sorenson operators left their numbers, but do not know who is calling us. That leaves us wondering who tried to call us. I would prefer to have the Caller ID like the hearing… thanks for bringing up the question.

  7. Jenifer Says:

I think this would be great but it would also be great to have it as an option, as some people block their caller ID numbers, for various personal and sometimes safety/privacy reasons.

  8. Dave Says:

Oh absolutely. I have been wondering WHY one of the VRS companies is not showing the incoming Caller ID#. One time I called a VRS provider, the interpreter told me she doesn’t have my number on her screen. Only IP number. I find that strange.

I know at least two people who refused to answer my calls because my name didn’t show up on their Caller ID. When they got my voice mail, they call me back.

What is this VRS company excuse do not want to show Caller ID?

    Thanks Kelby for sharing

  9. Sondra Says:

Yes, this is how we are living whether we like it or not. Functional Equivalency, it is!

  10. Don Cullen Says:

Valid reasoning, which I’m in full agreement with. However, that issue also brings up another area of concern. I suspect FCC will decide to mandate Caller ID, but also however require that customers have the ability to opt out of Caller ID.

That being said, I’d also like for FCC to mandate that if should Caller ID be allowed to be opted out of, callees be also given the ability to automatically decline anonymous calls via a pre-set preference in their control panel. Majority of the phone providers provide this ability– so I do not see why VRS providers shouldn’t. I for one know I would definitely block out anonymous callers.

  11. Chris Says:

Yes, everyone should have caller id as functional equivalency as hearing people.
Keep fighting for our rights.. Sorenson has no rights to take away the functional equivalency of all deaf people. If this were true in the hearing world, the world would be upside down.

  12. Stephen Hardy Says:

    Kelby,

All VRS relay providers should provide caller-id (local and 1-866 numbers) for incoming and outgoing calls. I have another issue about caller-id on the other side of the phone does not show my VRS local numbers on their caller-id. This is a problematic because I am a tech support for the university and the caller tend to hang up. The reason why they hang up on me is because the caller thinks this a telemarketing or sales call. I became very frustrated at times. I had to call the customer and explain that I am using the VRS to make calls. This is something I wish the VRS industry will resolve.

I hope you will relay these message to the FCC and it is imperative that feature should be available to all.

  13. Irina N Says:

Yes, this way, we can be aware of our incoming/outbound calls. Not only aware, it increase the equivalency and independence as well! Let’s get this settled! Thank you Kelby for the wavelength you send. Keep them coming! Eventually, FCC will grant the wish!

  14. Claudia Foy Says:

    Kelby,

I think we should be entitled to caller ID just like any regular telephone users.

I have had bankers looking for my caller ID and it would resolve their security questions they raise. If I want to hide my caller ID, I can do so myself. VRS providers shouldn’t make any decision for us. That’s functional equivalence.

    Regards,
    Claudia

  15. Dave Says:

    Chris stated:
“Sorenson has no rights to take away the functional equivalency of all
    deaf people.”

Actually, Sorenson doesn’t have the rights to decide what telephony deaf people need.

  16. Monty Says:

I agree Kelby about ID caller. We are right to have ID caller who call from like hearing callers have ID caller. I am opposed with Sorenson treat us bad as no right!!!

  17. Jay M. Says:

I never thought about Caller ID since. Second thought about your mention if this is good for deaf, hard of hearing to use it. Is it benefit for them to aware what this Caller ID important to have ? Does this help identify telemarketing whether know or not this call from?
I linked a webstie and read down to about true Caller ID that use by CRS. Read it. I think its benefit between users and others to PROTECT AND SECURITY. I think this would helps to reduce complaints.

  18. Alfred Sonnenstrahl Says:

Of all questions you have raised, this is the silliest of em all by far!
Your question should be aimed at hear people: “Should Caller ID be discontinued?”
If their response is negative, then it should be a MUST for deaf people.
In other words, deaf people get what hear people get and vice versa!
    Savvy?

  19. Paige Says:

Well, be my honest, I do not like caller id for safety reason. I grew up on tty with phone with never had any caller id. When the caller id invented, I had them for a while. I hate it. One reason, caller id, caught who was calling, then hang on me for no reason. Tried to call back and won’t pick up. I feel that it was huge hassle if have caller id. My opinion, when you have the address book on your videophone, you should design your own method to add “who” is calling. For example, my friend’s number. I added her number and her name on my address book. When she called me, her name will show up. Plain as simple. I never like Caller id. Really. I have cell phone, and I added their name with cell phone number, and they always showed up because I added this method in address book. Why we need caller id? I prefer to make these caller to tell me who they are than figure out who did use the phone, playing the game, etc. I dont like Caller id. I like the way to recieve the number first then find out who this person is calling, then save the number, and the name into the address book. Easier that way, than having caller id. It can lead many false information from caller id. If you want to set up caller id, then we should have a block number *69 to block it. Why not we have blocker on our videophone, you haven’t designed one?

    A definite great read…

  22. Heather Says:

The company don’t own us. We do whatever we want to do. like for example, we can turn it on or off whenever we want, we can know who is calling from (never know if it is imporant calls). Oh ABSOULTELY!!! we like to have caller ID like other hearing people do. I thought hearing world and deaf/hard of hearing world should have equally but i guess not! They don’t own us, WE can do whatever we want to do like hearing people.

  23. Dana Says:

The correct Caller ID does not show up when using some of the Web CapTel services. It can be a real problem because some people will try to call me back using the incorrect Caller ID information instead of using the phone numbers I gave them. This happened with a dyslexic friend who couldn’t or didn’t find the time to enter the phone numbers I had given him by email, and it was really annoying that he couldn’t figure out how to call me back.

*All* of the relay services should provide the correct caller id information.

  24. Kassie Says:

I absolutely agree with setting up caller ID!

  25. Jasin Bowman Says:

Caller ID is important, so I can ingore the telemarketers. So caller id is required. Think, people, you don’t want to get the call telemarketers.
